Breast augmentation using autogenous fat – a natural alternative to silicon

Frankfurt, 2007 November - Breast augmentation using autogenous fat – a natural alternative to silicon

A new cutting edge therapy using autogenous fat for breast augmentation has emerged. Now women who are unhappy with their breast size and wary of conventional implants can finally opt for a natural breast implant method. As plastic and aesthetic surgery specialist Dr. Petra Berger M.D. stated in Frankfurt, excellent results can be achieved for larger breasts using the sophisticated technique of autogenous fat injection.

„With this new method we have profited from many years of experience, and the results are remarkable from both a medical and aesthetical point of view”, says Dr. Berger. Throughout her extensive experience in the field, she has encountered numerous cases where autogenous fat has proven to be the ideal method. Autogenous fat injection is particularly helpful for women who wish to have fuller breasts, but do not want silicon implants. The method, which has been common practice in the USA and Japan for some time, has now reached an important turning point in Germany, and the topic is receiving much attention from the International Confederation for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS) and the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic surgery ISAPS. In order to receive this kind of breast enlargement treatment, the patient must have some fat in another area of the body. “This really is the only drawback to the autogenous fat technique, but it also comes as an advantage to women who undergo the procedure. In order to aesthetically shape and enlarge the breast with the new technique, a separate ‘trouble spot’ is treated using liposuction. This is an example of the effective two-in-one principle that can now be realized”, states Dr. Berger.

The preference for more natural breast enlargement techniques is not new, and neither is treatment with autogenous fat. Although lipoinjection (fat injection) is very commonly used in the field of wrinkle treatment, there has been much scepticism about the use of the technique for breast enlargement. “It is not surprising that the topic has been heavily debated in the past, since in many respects, the results have not been comparable with those achieved by the traditional breast enlargement method. With our new method however, those problems have become a thing of the past,” explains Dr. Berger. The method’s success owes to two different factors: first, the procedure for extracting and preparing autogenous fat for transplantation has been radically modified and improved upon; second, a totally new two-chamber technique is now performed in the implantation procedure.

This entails injecting autogenous fat directly into the breast skin behind the mammary gland. Because fat catabolizes to a certain extent, a larger amount is implanted in order to achieve the desired end results. The new method of fat extraction and preparation plays an important role in the advancement of autogenous fat breast implants and is the key factor in making autogenous fat implantation possible. Research in this field goes even further: aside from Dr. Berger, several international groups are working on the incorporation of fat stem cells, which would further improve the results of autogenous fat transplantations. Also, autogenous fat treatment has the amazing secondary effect of significantly improving the surface structure of the skin and enhancing skin elasticity. Even stretch marks are hardly noticeable following autogenous fat treatment.

Breast enlargement with lipoinjection is suitable treatment in the following cases:

  • Women who seek an alternative to traditionally used implants
  • Woman who desire modest augmentation of breast size
  • For correcting minor cases of sagging breasts
  • Women who desire fuller cleavage
  • Women with congenital or acquired breast asymmetry
  • To conceal silicon implants that have begun to show beneath the skin’s surface
  • Women already planning liposuction for whom breast sculpting seems desirable
  • Women who desire liposuction treatment and in the process of losing weight do not want the first pounds shed to affect their breast size

„While in the past, artificial implants have presented themselves as the only effective breast enlargement option, the new two-chamber technique is now considered a real alternative — an alternative that offers remarkable advantages”, Dr. Berger explains further:

  • The two-in-one effect: when a woman is planning liposuction, she can also choose to have her breasts aesthetically enhanced.
  • Minimally invasive procedure: lipoinjection leaves no scars on the breast.
  • Gentle and natural enhancement: the results are both seen and felt; not only does the method create a remarkable push-up effect, the breast also feels natural to the touch and the skin is tighter with improved elasticity.
  • Reliability with mammographies: for women who have received breast augmentation using autogenous fat, a well-trained radiologist can make a more reliable assessment.

„Again, the new breast sculpting method using autogenous fat is so much more advanced than the techniques used in the past, and the complications that used to be so common have been reduced accordingly. When a woman decides to have a breast enlargement, she should be careful to make an informed choice with regard to the different options available and request information particularly about the newest technique using autogenous fat”, says Dr. Berger.
